This give to us some advantages, like this :
1. A Masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You just can't go wrong with Waldron on Enja.Yes there is the classic early Prestige work, the Lacy Duets, and the LP "The Quest" with Dolphy" and many phases of this man who was sui generis and encompassed maybe the broadest definition of what jazz piano can be.But when I turn folks on to Waldron I recommend trio recordings like "Black Glory" (incredible) or this effort which in terms of his quintet or sextet work is only matched by slightly latter two Soul Note Lp's from '86 at the Vanguard (with one of my faves Charlie Rouse-what a band). But this is great with his well known tune "Snake Out" and a great ballad "Russian Lullaby".This not one not to have among many Lp's of Waldron's that are musts. As I always try to do I mention the Jazz Foundation Of America and suggest you check out there good works and maybe pass the message on in review (just don't put in the web address or it will be deleted). There needed in these tough times.
