This Hardcore & Punk give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Good stuff
Rock prodigy Jay Reatard seems unstoppable. His knowledge of pop music, punk, and rock seems unfathomable but the kitchen sink style works. Jay Reatard reminds me of the glory days of Guided By Voices in that he is able to write endlessly great power pop songs. How is it that one compilation of 7" singles is more consistently rewarding than some artists' entire catalogs?
On this compilation, Reatard's music runs the gamut and is aggressively poppy. A true kaleidoscope of sound, this release will take a few listens to digest. It's not that this album is a grower; it's more like an overload. The music contained is on `Matador Singles `08' is so good that it takes more than a couple of listens to get it all. Keep an eye on Jay Reatard; hopefully he is able to maintain a consistently high quality of stuff coming for years to come.
